About The Position

This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of a water treatment plant.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Must have at least one ( 1 ) year of related experience.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for water or wastewater treatment or distribution, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of water treatment principles, operations, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, hydraulics, and biology.
  • Knowledge of department and county policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Skill in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment.
  • Skill in planning, organization, and decision-making.
  • Skill in the supervision of personnel.
  • Skill in thinking clearly under difficult circumstances.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
  • Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this job. Pre-employment drug/alcohol testing, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and criminal background checks are required.
  • This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
  • If the applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the day-to-day operation of the water treatment plant.
  • Operates equipment to control water flow and maintain proper operating levels.
  • Services, maintains, operates, and repairs facilities and equipment, including large-scale pumping devices, chlorination and other chemical feed systems, storage facilities, and related equipment.
  • Collects samples; performs laboratory analyses to ensure that treatment facilities are operating efficiently; supervises and carries out corrective actions.
  • Trains, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
  • Makes rounds of plants; reads gauges and meters; records readings.
  • Purchases equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Maintains maintenance and chemical analysis records; prepares logs, records, and reports, including required local, state, and federal reports.
  • Prioritizes job assignments for subordinates.
  • Responds to after-hours emergencies.
  • Attends required training classes.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
