About The Position

Join our Summer Intern Program and gain hands-on experience in the water utility industry. As a Water Treatment Operator Intern, you’ll support the daily operations of our water treatment facilities under the guidance of experienced and certified operators. This internship offers meaningful exposure to plant operations, equipment maintenance, water quality monitoring, and safety and compliance practices that help ensure our community receives safe, reliable drinking water. You’ll learn how water is treated from source to tap while working alongside supportive teammates in a regulated, safety‑focused environment. This is an excellent opportunity to build technical skills, explore a career in water operations, and make a real impact in your community while gaining practical, real‑world experience.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a water‑related, environmental, engineering, or technical program
  • Interest in learning more about water treatment operations and the water utility industry
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and work in a regulated environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with a diverse team
  • Curiosity, reliability, and a desire to learn hands-on technical skills

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting operational and maintenance data for water treatment plants and well fields
  • Support water sampling activities for pH, chlorine residual, and other parameters under supervision
  • Learn how analytical and monitoring equipment is verified and calibrated and assist as directed
  • Observe and assist operators with routine plant operations, maintenance activities, and basic troubleshooting
  • Receive daily job assignments through work orders and instructions from Lead Operators, Plant Operations Foremen, or Operations Supervisors
  • Support assigned projects and continuous improvement efforts alongside experienced team members
  • Learn to review and become familiar with water facility plans, standard operating procedures, and safety requirements
  • Accurately track time worked and tasks performed using established systems
  • Complete required documentation such as job hazard assessments, vehicle inspections, daily reports, and facility log books with training and oversight
  • Support other projects and responsibilities as requested
