About The Position

Qualifications: OPERATOR IN TRAINING II - Water Production Basic Qualifications : High school diploma or GED Possess a valid driver’s license. Water level I (Required) Minimum of one year water experience (Required) Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in the general operations of engines, pumps, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; basic biological and chemical principles Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: The work area can involve a working environment indoors as well as outdoors, which could cause exposure to outdoor elements; proper environmental attire will be provided. Some areas can have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, pathogens and various chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact. Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, twist and bend at the waist, turn, kneel, squat, raise arms above shoulder height, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements and fine coordination to work on equipment, have vision sufficient to read blueprints; have hearing in the normal range with or without correction. In an 8-hour shift must be able to transport self across the facility, ascend and descend stair steps, lift objects up to 50 pounds from floor level to waist height, climb and work off of a ladder or scaffold; use arms and back to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts; work in confined spaces and wear and use appropriate safety equipment. Responsibilities: General Statement: Performs a variety of unskilled and routine maintenance tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant on an assigned shift; learns and gains skills in a variety of equipment maintenance, servicing, and operating tasks. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs any combination of tasks pertinent to controlling operation of plants and pumping stations as directed Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water, sludge, and effluent under direction of Operator, Operator I, Operator II, Lead Operator or Lead Operator II Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels Observes and reports abnormalities to Lead Operator or Lead Operator II Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control; starts and stops pumps, engines, and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes under direction of Operator, Operator I, Operator II, Lead Operator or Lead Operator II Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings Takes samples and performs process control laboratory tests and analyses Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties Must be fit and able to work overtime Works safely and adheres to established safety procedures Follows written and oral instructions Performs other duties as assigned. 21.27 Qualifications High school diploma or GED Possess a valid driver’s license.
