Duties include daily checks of wells, pumps, lift stations, manholes, booster pump stations and reservoirs. Conducts, administers, and supervises all company work related efforts and activities within the rules, regulations and responsibilities of the most current company safety policy and OHSA regulation. The Operator will respond to main line breaks, service breaks, fire hydrant problems and other emergencies as deemed necessary by his/her Supervisor. The Operator will also assist customers with concerns of quality and delivery.  This position also provides technical and/or physical assistance to other operations personnel, contractors and developers and any other duties assigned. Also performs or assists in the performance of routine maintenance and emergency repairs to all facets of the system. Additionally, the operator will be responsible for accurate record keeping in all matters pertaining to the daily operations of the system.

Requirements

  • Experience in plumbing, water treatment and/or water distribution preferred.
  • Valid Arkansas Driver’s License Class D or a CDL is preferred. Arkansas Department of Health Water Operator License (Grade II Treatment or Grade II Distribution) or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.  Certification must be kept current throughout employment.
  • Work requires the ability to read and understand reports, maps and drawings.
  • Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, as well as knowledge of common water calculations and their applications.

Responsibilities

  • Daily inspection of all well sites, reservoirs, and booster stations, noting well motor run times, pump rates and operation, general condition of sites and appurtenances.
  • Inspection of possible leaks. Repairs, when possible, to service lines, water mains and hydrants. completes utility locates.  Arrangement for repairs by contractors. Assistance to contractors in completion of repairs. Assists in light maintenance and lubrication of excavating and construction equipment. Cleans and fuels company  vehicles as needed.
  • Assist customers with troubles related to water supply, volume, pressure or quality. Arrange for, or complete sampling if deemed necessary, to assure customer satisfaction and confidence.
  • Perform routine maintenance and/or repairs at sites. Filter changes, adjustments and repairs to chlorine generators and feed pumps. Maintenance of motor and pump oiling equipment, addition of oil to oilers. Regular scheduled maintenance to electric motors.
  • General maintenance to all well sites, including, but not limited to removal of debris, weeds and pallets. Maintenance of surrounding area, comprised of a ten foot perimeter at all sites.
  • Maintains current certifications
  • Work requires the ability to keep accurate daily records at well sites and reservoir sites.
  • Ability to complete repairs and tasks in a timely fashion
  • Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex and significant variables. Company-wide policies, procedures, or precedents may be developed and/or recommended.
  • Ability to work closely with fellow workers. Ability to follow instructions in performance of regular maintenance to all portions of system.
  • Work requires specialized knowledge of wells, pumps, motors, chlorine systems. Knowledge of plumbing principles and ability to complete repairs to system, or make decisions regarding their repairs.  Work requires high degree of knowledge of plumbing materials and methods as related to utility improvements. Appropriate certification is required.
