About The Position

The Water Operator I position involves performing activities related to operating and monitoring well stations and pump equipment, adding and adjusting chemicals, reading flow meters and gauges, testing water chemistry, checking and lubricating equipment, and collecting and recording operational information. The role also includes collecting and transporting water samples, supervising treatment, and ensuring proper monitoring and control. Additional duties involve operating various mechanical equipment at treatment facilities, answering telephones, and maintaining the general care of the facilities and grounds.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Computer literate and able to learn and work with company computer systems and software.
  • Ability to read instrumentation and water quality equipment.
  • General background of main pumping station operation.
  • Basic operating knowledge of pumps, motors, water treatment, and other equipment related to pumping stations.
  • Skills in learning on the fly, organizational agility, problem solving, and time management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform meter service operations including meeting customers, reading, setting, and removing meters, and performing inspections for high bills.
  • Conduct plumbing inspections and check for cross connections.
  • Perform outside physical labor related to the installation and maintenance of piping, fire hydrants, services, and appurtenances.
  • Flush water mains and perform water utility mark outs.
  • Add and adjust chemical treatment systems, read meters and gauges, and make chemical tests.
  • Operate company water filtration and treatment plants.
  • Receive and supervise water treatment chemical deliveries.
  • Troubleshoot and correct minor electrical and mechanical equipment problems.
  • Conduct safety inspections and work in accordance with all safety rules.
  • Address water-related complaints and communicate effectively with customers and regulatory personnel.
  • Participate in after-hour call rotation and respond to water system emergencies.
