Houston Water Operations Technician II
About The Position
Operates, maintains and monitors wastewater treatment systems and sludge processing equipment to comply with state and federal permits (TCEQ, EPA). Oversees and works with other supporting groups to coordinate activities that affect plant operations. Oversees the operation of one or more wastewater treatment facilities. Oversees training of new hires, and Technician 1 assigned to his or her area. Generates work orders and expedites the scheduling of equipment maintenance, tools, and vehicles. Knowledgeable in the use of SCADA system to monitor and interpret mechanical and chemical processes at the facilities. Inspects and tests working conditions on all equipment. Compares readings on equipment and processes with established operational ranges to evaluate system performance. Initiates system changes within established guidelines to affect process control. Frequently performs simple chemical analysis to ensure proper chemical balances. Collects, analyzes and monitors data relevant to maintaining efficient water treatment operations. Communicates and coordinates work with other operators and support personnel by radio, telephone and e-mail.
Requirements
- Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate.
- Two (2) years of plant operation experience are required.
- Requires a valid Driver License and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
- Requires a valid Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Class "C" Water or Wastewater Operator's certificate Level II requires a valid TCEQ Class "B" Water or Wastewater Operator's certificate. Certificates must be appropriate to position location, such as surface water, groundwater, distribution, or wastewater treatment
Nice To Haves
- Preference will be given to the applicants that hold a valid Class "B" Wastewater Operator Certificate from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
- Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
