The Water Jet Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining water jet cutting machine to shape and cut a wide variety of materials according to production specifications. This role ensures precision, quality, and efficiency in daily operations, while strictly adhering to safety standards and maintenance protocol

  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and work orders to determine specifications.
  • Set up and operate water jet cutting equipment to cut specific metals.
  • Select appropriate tools, materials, and set ups for each job.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure quality and adherence to design tolerances.
  • Perform routine adjustments to machines to improve cut quality or resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with supervisors to meet production goals.
  • Machine Setup: Prepare and calibrate water jet machinery for each job based on material type and thickness.
  • Nozzle and Abrasive Management: Install, monitor, and replace nozzles and manage abrasive flow rate and type.
  • Material Handling: Load and secure raw materials safely onto the cutting bed.
  • Control Software Operation: Use CNC systems to program and run cutting sequences.
  • Fixture and Tooling Management: Set up and maintain proper fixtures and tooling to ensure part stability during cutting.
  • Cut Quality Monitoring: Continuously monitor machine performance and cut quality during operation, making adjustments as needed.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks such as cleaning filters, checking fluid levels, inspecting lines and seals, and reporting wear-and-tear.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs: Identify mechanical or software issues and work with maintenance technicians to resolve problems promptly.
  • Workplace Safety Compliance: Adhere to all workplace safety regulations, wear appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), and maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment.
  • Emergency Procedures: Understand and follow emergency shut-down procedures and report all safety incidents or near misses immediately to the supervisor.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in similar job
  • Capability of lifting up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend and climb
  • High Level of manual dexterity
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Verbal Communication in English
  • English Reading Skills
  • English Writing Skills
  • Time Management Skills
  • Mathematic Aptitude
  • Spanish Language Skills is a plus
