The Water Instrumentation Specialist performs water and lime testing along with other laboratory procedures and records and interprets the results necessary for proper operation of the well fields and treatment plants in compliance with Federal and State regulations. By utilizing complex laboratory instruments such as Gas Chromatograph (GC), Gas Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (GC/MS), Total Organic Carbon (TOC), Atomic Absorption (AA), Flow Injection Analyzer (FIA), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), and Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), the incumbent determines metal contents/levels in water samples. Instrumentation Specialists must possess thorough knowledge of the laboratory equipment and its major and minor components and be able to set-up, tear-down, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs of equipment. Through the use of personal computers and operating systems, must be able to manipulate databases, spreadsheets, graphic programs and word processing. Incumbent must possess functioning knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in order to facilitate data, searches and quality control programs.
