About The Position

Instruct group classes; provide excellent service to members in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Must be available for mid morning classes weekday between 9:30 and 11:30 am. This is a part time position with approximately 3-6 hours a week available

Requirements

  • At least one year experience leading fitness classes
  • General knowledge of exercise training and leadership, including basic anatomy, physiology, and exercise principles
  • Physically fit in order to demonstrate all phases of aerobic exercises.
  • Mentally alert to recognize potential hazards and accidents.
  • Able to hear and follow the beat of the music and have visual ability to observe class participants during workout.
  • Able to vocalize cues and use equipment properly.
  • Current YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard
  • Current YMCA or USWFA Water Fitness Instructor Certification
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead water fitness classes following YMCA or USWFA Instructor Guidelines, Protocols, and Visions of Excellence
  • Enforce aquatic rules and policies
  • Prepare progressive exercise plans for program participants
  • Record and maintain attendance records daily
  • Set up facility or equipment, store equipment, and secure facility and equipment upon completion of each class
  • Act as a Primary Responder in case of injury, accident, or illness in pool area and provide backup to lifeguards as needed in emergencies and crowd control.
  • Report injuries and complete required forms
  • Support and follow YMCA policies and decisions and answer member questions about the YMCA and its programs and fitness related questions
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Plans and implements a program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA
  • Coordinates activities which are culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures
