About The Position

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking a dynamic and driven Water Engineer to work in our Newport News, VA office. This position follows a hybrid-remote work format, with 3 days required on site per week. Joining the water resources team at Gannett Fleming TranSystems means contributing to innovative solutions for sustainable water management and infrastructure. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • 5-8 years' of related experience in water/wastewater engineering
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to assist in/conduct effective client presentations and prepare written reports
  • Experience working with municipal and private utilities
  • Progressive experience in evaluation, design, permitting and construction administration of infrastructure improvements will be favorably considered
  • Physically able to perform work in the field
  • Team player possessing strong planning and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of BIM, Civil 3D, GIS, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling or other specialty engineering software
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite and use of standard engineering software
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or the ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification within 3 months of hire required

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the planning, design and construction administration of water, wastewater and municipal infrastructure facilities/projects
  • Conduct site visits, surveys and inspections, and assist with data collection and compilation for utility infrastructure projects
  • Prepare reports
  • Develop design plans, specifications and cost estimates
  • Review Subdivision, Land Development, Grading and Zoning plans, including review and development of Stormwater Management and Erosion and Sediment Control plans
  • Prepare federal, state and local permit applications
  • Perform construction observation and field engineering services
  • Prepare grant/funding applications
