About The Position

As a Water Conservation Specialist, you will play a key role in developing and implementing programs that promote efficient water use and sustainability within the community. In this position, you will analyze water usage data, conduct water audits, and recommend strategies that reduce water loss while supporting the City’s Water Efficiency Plan. The ideal candidate is someone who is analytical, proactive, and passionate about environmental stewardship. This role also focuses on community engagement through public education, outreach events, and collaboration with local organizations to raise awareness about water conservation initiatives. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in water conservation, sustainability, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, sustainability, resource conservation, or a related field.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement water conservation strategies, programs, and initiatives identified in the City’s Water Efficiency Plan; develop indicators to measure progress.
  • Develop public education and marketing awareness campaigns to increase awareness and involvement in water conservation issues and rebate programs.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs and initiatives; conduct water audits, analyze water usage data, and identify and provide recommendations to minimize water loss.
  • Identify grant opportunities; assist with grant applications for water conservation funds including graywater and turf replacement programs.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to customers and stakeholders on water conservation best practices, equipment upgrades, and retrofitting options.
  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of emerging trends, research, and technologies in the field of water conservation and make recommendations for adoption and integration into existing programs.
  • Serve as staff liaison to boards, commissions and/or committees related to the water conservation initiatives; participate in the Grand Valley Drought Response Information Project (DRIP) committee.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
