OVERVIEW OF JOB The Water Monitor promotes and educates customers in water conservation methods through customer interactions created by enforcing watering restrictions set by the Aurora Water Management Plan. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience in customer service, public contact, field services, utilities, or a related area involving interaction with the public
  • Basic knowledge of customer service practices
  • Basic knowledge of water conservation principles
  • General understanding of irrigation systems or outdoor water use
  • Basic knowledge of recordkeeping practices
  • Skill in communicating technical information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences
  • Skill in conflict resolution and de-escalation during enforcement or compliance discussions
  • Skill in documenting interactions and maintaining accurate records
  • Skill in using basic computer programs and mobile devices
  • Skill in resolving routine customer concerns
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, and contractors
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to explain watering restrictions and conservation practices to customers
  • Ability to apply municipal codes and watering restrictions consistently and fairly
  • Ability to work independently in field settings while maintaining accountability
  • Ability to analyze water usage trends and identify potential leaks or waste
  • Ability to maintain records and logs, and perform activities common to assigned job functions
  • Ability to thrive both independently and in a team setting
  • Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and be able to operate a city vehicle, or otherwise demonstrate ability to meet the transportation requirements of the position

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in conflict resolution and navigating difficult conversations
  • General knowledge of irrigation systems, irrigation repair, and practices associated with water conservation
  • Bilingual preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Advocates water conservation by educating customers through outreach efforts
  • Makes contact with customers, homeowners associations and contractors regarding water use issues
  • Seeks compliance of City of Aurora codes relating to waste of water
  • Maintains patrols of the City looking for violations and responding to complaints that have been received on water waste
  • Engages customers utilizing AMI data to correct high-use and leaks
  • Enforces watering restrictions set by the Water Management Plan of the Water Department
  • Maintains records and prepares reports on customer interactions
  • May perform residential irrigation and soil inspections
  • Performs other duties as assigned
