About The Position

Under the general direction of the Chief Engineer I, the Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor supervises the operation of the water treatment and/or sewage treatment facility. The Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor position requires a Grade II or higher water treatment operator's certificate issued by the California Water Resources Control Board, Division of Drinking Water and a Grade I or higher wastewater treatment plant operator's certificate issued by the State of California, Office of Wastewater Operator Certification Program. The Water and Sewer Plant Supervisor shall operate and maintain the treatment facilities in their various treatment stages, perform laboratory analysis, interpret test results, and determine necessary chemical dosages, direct or assist in the repairs or replacements of various types of pump chlorinators, flow meters, valves and other related mechanical equipment. The Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor shall also keep accurate and precise records as required by Surface Water Treatment Rule and California Water Resources Control Board and shall report any discrepancies and/or irregularities to the Chief Engineer I, Correctional Plant Supervisor, Correctional Plant Manager II, or any other supervisor immediately. The Water and Sewage Plant Supervisor may also direct and supervise inmates, prevent escape and injury by inmates to themselves or to state property, maintain security of working areas and work materials, inspect premises and search inmates for contraband such as weapons or illegal drugs. Be aware of the heat pathology procedures for inmates on heat risk medications (attached). This position will also need to maintain a safety consciousness and awareness with specific attention to factors such as phone numbers to dial in emergency situations, familiarize yourself with alternate measures of summoning aid when the telephone is not available, know the location of the nearest fire extinguisher at locations where you spend most of your time, correct or report any safety hazards that you observe and use common sense in resolving safety problems, and know the location of the nearest breakaway gurney.
