About The Position

To ensure the proper operation, monitoring and maintenance of the wastewater treatment system, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations at the local, state and federal level. Essential Position Responsibilities Operate and maintain wastewater treatment facilities, including pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment. Monitor treatment processes, perform routine inspections, and record operational data. Collect and analyze water samples to ensure compliance with the local permit requirements including, but not limited to, total suspended solids, ammonia, nitrates, pH, etc. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on wastewater systems. Respond to system malfunctions, alarms, and emergencies in a timely manner. Maintain accurate logs, reports, and documentation for regulatory compliance. Participates as a member of the Team.  Participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.  Attends appropriate team meetings.  As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.  Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforces actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.  Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives:  Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas. Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives: This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Wastewater Operator and is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position.

Requirements

  • Be able to stand for entire shift
  • Be able to lift and carry up to  50 pounds occasionally
  • Position may require exposure to hot, cold, noisy, or dusty, humid environments
  • Position requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, standing, and climbing
  • Position requires working indoors and outdoors in each season and most weather conditions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift license.
  • Ability to work in tight confined spaces.
  • Std waterproof gloves, safety glasses, hard hat, face shield, hearing protection, steel toed, slip resistant shoes and reflective vest.
  • Required to travel for classes, training and testing, with possible overnight stays.
  • Four (4) years of acceptable operating experience in Wastewater Facilities of Class II or higher, two (2) years of which must have been in a position of Direct Responsible Charge.
  • Must have and maintain a wastewater level III Operator’s license as per state requirements
  • Must have computer skills.
  • Associate's degree in science or engineering from an accredited college or university, or equivalent credit hours in any other curriculum as approved by the State of Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Division of Water Board.
