About The Position

The City of Port St. Lucie is seeking a trainee for the operation of its wastewater treatment plant. This position involves manual and mechanical work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility, aimed at facilitating the development of public trust and confidence in the City and its Utility. The role is considered an 'Essential Position' for Emergency Management, requiring 24/7 availability during emergencies as determined by City officials. The position includes rotating shift work, scheduled/unscheduled overtime, and immediate response to emergency conditions.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma required.
  • Proof of current enrollment or completion of a wastewater treatment course recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) required.
  • Class 'C' Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License as issued by the State of Florida must be obtained within eighteen (18) months from date of hire.
  • Possession of valid driver's license and maintenance of clean driving record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior utility systems experience preferred.
  • Successful completion of volumes 1 and 2 of the Wastewater Operations Sacramento courses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of complex advanced treatment facilities with both manual and automated control systems.
  • Assist in the operation and maintenance of pumps, equipment, and mechanical/automatic controls to maintain proper treatment and disposal processes.
  • Check treatment facilities routinely for proper operation and record daily meter readings.
  • Check, read, and interpret the plant SCADA system.
  • Take wastewater samples for biological, bacterial, and chemical tests.
  • Assist in running chlorine residual and process control tests.
  • Assist in the collection of data for daily and monthly reports for submittal to regulatory agencies.
  • Exercise and maintain pumps, controls, meters, and related equipment.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance and scheduled operational duties.
  • Perform data entry.
  • Perform general housekeeping.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
