The Wastewater Liquids Operator position is a technical role responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance of the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant. This position requires the operator to monitor wastewater flow and treatment processes throughout the plant and at lift stations during assigned shifts. Operators work independently based on general and specific instructions, with their work being reviewed by a supervisor who conducts daily inspections and checks records and charts. The role encompasses a large physical area, requiring operators to be vigilant and proactive in maintaining proper treatment and process control in accordance with prescribed standards. Key responsibilities include monitoring and taking corrective actions in wastewater treatment processes, maintaining and preparing operating records, and controlling and operating various equipment essential for the treatment process. Operators are also responsible for inspecting machinery, performing repairs, and assisting in maintenance tasks. The position requires compliance with safety regulations, especially when entering confined spaces, and participation in health and safety training. Additionally, operators perform routine laboratory tests and maintain accurate records of test results. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of wastewater treatment principles, chemistry, and lab procedures, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The role demands effective communication skills to interact with city employees and the public, as well as the ability to react promptly in emergencies. Physical demands include the ability to lift and move weights up to 45 pounds and work in various weather conditions, including exposure to elements such as rain and snow.
