About The Position

Under limited direction, the Lead Wastewater Collections Technician inspects, oversees, and supervises the installation, maintenance, and repair of sanitary sewers or water mains and appurtenances for the Public Utilities Department. Provides exceptional customer service to address concerns and complaints.

Requirements

  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • Florida Water & Pollution Control Operators Association Class B Wastewater Collections Certificate is required.
  • Possession of Class B CDL with tanker endorsement, obtain and maintain Class A with tanker endorsement within 1 year of hire date.
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate AND three (3) years' experience as a semi-skilled laborer in utilities maintenance or construction field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, monitors, assists, and performs the installation, maintenance, and repair of all wastewater equipment and areas; supervises all phases of sanitary sewer activities; provides leadership and expertise for other technicians and serves as a crew leader.
  • Removes, cleans, and disposes dirt, concrete, blacktop, and other materials; digs and opens ditches for laying pipe by use of a trenching machine, backhoe, or manually; assists in the setup, calibration, and usage of all equipment and performs traffic control for work zones and public safety.
  • Supervises other technicians and employees to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, effectively, and accurately; operates and uses other equipment and ensures their proper functionality.
  • Inspects and uses various equipment to observe sewer pipes; effectively uses camera and video equipment; marks defects, locates areas needing repair, and performs the proper coding.
  • Prepares and drafts daily paperwork to track all activities and work done; enters information into City computers, tracks daily hours, notes locations, and reports on results; monitors employee work and ensures quality.
  • Assists, supports, and provides leadership for the technicians working in the field; provides support and help, gathers materials, and assists with various challenging repairs and installs. Provides excellent customer service activities; engage and communicates with various general public and customers, addresses concerns, and handles complaints; explains and communicates policies and procedures, diffuses tense situations, and handles issues with diplomacy and tact.
  • Performs stand-by duty for after-hour responses; assists department in the event of an emergency and may be required to work odd or altered hours.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
