About The Position

This is progressively intensive manual labor work in the collection of wastewater. An employee in this position is responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled to semi-skilled tasks and any other work in connection with the sanitary wastewater collection system. Employees in this position work under the direction of a Utilities Supervisor or designated Wastewater Field Technician. Wastewater Tech I - Starting salary: $20.58/hour Wastewater Tech II- Starting Salary: $21.62/hour Wastewater Tech Senior- Starting Salary: $22.69/hour

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Class "B" CDL with Tanker endorsement (CDL) within six (6) months of hire
  • Florida Water and Pollution Control Operators Association (FWPCOA) Wastewater Collections "C" Certification within two (2) years of hire
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid Training within six (6) months of hire
  • The following listed training must be completed within one year from the hire date:
  • Intermediate MOT training
  • Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Training Course, Incident Command System (ICS) 100
  • Confined Space Training
  • Trench Safety/Competent Person Training
  • Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures for wastewater utility system
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards of the trade and proper use of safety procedures
  • Ability to learn training information and apply knowledge to demonstrate competency
  • Ability to operate equipment used for the repair of wastewater lines
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to complete work assignments correctly
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions
  • Ability to install, maintain, and repair sanitary sewer lines
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and as-built drawings
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including callouts
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City employees, department officials, and the public

Responsibilities

  • Operates light to heavy-duty trucks and equipment, mini-excavator and backhoe
  • Assists with forms/finishes concrete and repairs asphalt
  • Operates various types of construction equipment including, but not limited to, concrete mixers, tampers, air compressors, jackhammers, rotatory hammer drills, and various types of hand and power tools
  • Participates in the installation and repair of various size gravity and force main pipelines
  • Participates in the installation of a wide variety of pipeline fittings and pipeline repair components
  • Installs manhole rings and covers and demonstrates the ability to adjust manhole ring and cover to grade as needed
  • Repairs and installs cleanouts and any other sanitary sewer components
  • Enters accurate data into the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including timekeeping, creating work orders, and work order tasks
  • Assists with the setup of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)
  • Implements Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) procedures following department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Supports honest and transparent decision-making
  • Collaborates with all team members in a way that builds upon ideas and takes personal accountability and ownership of projects, roles, and assignments
  • Openly exhibits a positive attitude, in words and action, and encourages others to do the same
  • Performs related work as required
  • As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.
