Under the direction and supervision of the Wastewater Collections Supervisor, performs work on all aspects of the wastewater collection system including all maintenance, repair, and new installation. Provides direction to subordinate operators. Is fully qualified to perform the most complex functions of the wastewater collections field team. Levels of Responsibility: Supervisory Responsibility: 1-5 Water Distribution Operators Responsibility Asset Value: Crew Truck and Associated Tools - $100,000 Backhoe - $160,000 Dump Truck - $275,000 Combination Jetter/Vacuum Truck - $500,000 CCTV Truck - $330,000 Technology Knowledge: Workorder Management System, Microsoft Outlook, Executime, Esri products, and BambooHR ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in ensuring that the wastewater collection system is operated and maintained in accordance with Federal, State, and City regulations related to public health. Responsible for assigned crew’s adherence to all City and Department safety policies relating to all activities associated with maintaining the wastewater collection system. Also serves as the “Confined Space Safety Supervisor” during confined space operations. Responsible for ensuring that all work assigned to the crew pertaining to the installation, repair, and maintenance of the wastewater collection system is completed properly, professionally, and in a timely manner. Instructs and assigns tasks to crew members. Drives and operates tractors, backhoes, mini-excavators, skid steers, combination jetter/vacuum trucks, CCTV equipment and other heavy machinery. Drives and operates dump trucks to transport and unload materials. Responsible for taking before and after pictures of jobsites to provide visual information concerning the customer’s vegetation and landscaping as well as the location of existing utilities, damages, and repairs. Interacts with customers and acts as a representative of the organization. Is also responsible for customer notification when water service is going to be interrupted. Assists in establishing traffic control and safety measures when working in or near the roadway. Assists in the development of new employees with equipment, policies, procedures, and the overall function of the department. Responsible for maintaining all vehicles and equipment assigned to the crew including crew truck, dump truck, backhoe, combination truck, tools, and parts. Checks and completes work orders, requisitions, daily logs, used or returned materials, and vehicle/equipment reports. Assists in updating and correcting the department’s GIS map. Maintains availability for advice and/or help to after-hours standby personnel. Able and willing to work a rotational stand-by schedule and able to work overtime as needed. Responsible for removal of accumulated snow in the event of a winter storm at assigned locations throughout the City of Bentonville. This position is considered a first responder in the event of a citywide emergency or disaster situation. During such an event, this position will coordinate with the Supervisor and perform tasks that are assigned based on the need of the situation. Reporting relationships, work assignments, and work schedules may be subject to change in order to meet City needs or operational requirements. Attendance at work and the ability to get along with the public, supervisors, and co-workers are essential elements of this position. Other duties may be assigned.
