About The Position

This role is responsible for gathering, analyzing, and interpreting samples to ensure the wastewater treatment facility meets local and federal regulatory requirements. The position supports daily plant operations, equipment inspections, sanitation, and process adjustments based on lab results. Work is performed fully onsite and includes shared on‑call responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 8 years of wastewater treatment plant experience (4 years at Grade III or higher). OR a combination of related education plus 4 years of Grade III+ plant experience.
  • Current State of Maine Grade V Biological Treatment certification.
  • Completion of the McCain Operator Training Program.
  • Valid State of Maine driver’s license.
  • Strong analytical and problem ‑ solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent changes and manage competing demands.
  • Effective communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan, and execute tasks independently.
  • Commitment to high safety standards and quality work.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong judgment, initiative, and dependability.
  • Ability to handle stressful environments with professionalism and emotional agility.
  • Team ‑ focused mindset with respect for diversity and organizational values.
  • Ability to stand, walk, reach, stoop, kneel, and climb frequently.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Work in environments with heat, humidity, mechanical parts, chemicals, outdoor weather, and moderate noise.
  • Capability to interpret instructions, compute basic math, and follow standardized procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring the control computer to ensure the plant is running properly.
  • Conducting daily equipment and building inspections.
  • Gathering, testing, and analyzing samples to guide operational decisions.
  • Adjusting processes based on laboratory findings.
  • Performing daily downtime sanitation and maintenance.
  • Applying McCain Competitive Edge/Lean Manufacturing practices (SQCDP).
  • Working onsite, maintaining punctuality, and participating in on ‑ call rotations.
  • Adhering to all safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
  • Completing annual training and other duties as assigned.
