About The Position

This position is an advanced classification serving as a certified operator of wastewater treatment facilities and potable water wells. The role is responsible for the proper operation, regulation, and supervision of plant equipment to ensure that all treated water and wastewater meet required quality standards and comply with State of Florida and City of Milton requirements. The position also may provide operational oversight of staff operations.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience as a certified operator of a wastewater treatment plant.
  • At least one (1) year of experience operating potable water wells.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience supervising subordinate employees at a wastewater facility.
  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Florida motor vehicle operator license.
  • Ability to obtain a Class “B” CDL with Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of employment.
  • State of Florida DER Class “C” Wastewater Certification.
  • State of Florida DER Class “C” Drinking Water Certification.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the wastewater treatment plant and potable water wells as a certified operator on an assigned shift.
  • Ensures proper operation and regulation of plant equipment so that the end product meets quality standards, Florida DER requirements, and City requirements.
  • Supervises daily operations of the wastewater treatment plant and potable water wells.
  • Performs sampling and analysis in accordance with established operating procedures.
  • Collects samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Takes and records meter readings at regular intervals.
  • Adds chlorine and other chemicals to water and wastewater systems as required.
  • Regulates the rate of flow of water to and from wells.
  • Places filters into and out of service, washes filters, and regulates machinery.
  • Makes mechanical repairs to equipment and wells.
  • Inspects the wastewater treatment plant and water wells on a regular basis.
  • Reports discrepancies, deficiencies, or needed repairs to supervisors.
  • Directs and oversees work activities of subordinate employees on the same shift.
  • Responds to emergency situations and operational issues as needed.
  • Performs other related duties or special work assignments as required to support plant operations.
