About The Position

The position involves operating sewage treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment in a wastewater treatment plant to control the flow and processing of sewage. The operator will monitor control panels, adjust valves and gates, and observe variations in operating conditions. Responsibilities include starting and stopping pumps, maintaining logs of operations, and conducting laboratory tests on sewage samples. The operator will also be responsible for operating and maintaining power-generating equipment to provide steam and electricity for the plant.

Requirements

• Less than high school education; or up to one-month related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with I O's and I OO's.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
