About The Position

The Waste Transfer Station Laborer/Switch Operator plays a vital role in the efficient and safe operation of the waste transfer station. This position involves operating equipment, performing manual labor tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations while managing waste materials for processing and disposal.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical school is a plus.
• Three months to one year of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules and operating instructions.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in waste management, recycling, or general labor is preferred.
• Basic understanding of waste sorting procedures and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Operate small to medium-sized equipment such as forklifts, front-end loaders, compactors, and conveyor systems.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report any malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.
• Receive and inspect incoming waste materials to ensure compliance with guidelines.
• Sort and segregate waste into appropriate categories using manual labor or equipment.
• Load and unload waste materials onto designated areas or containers.
• Keep the waste transfer station clean and organized by sweeping and removing debris.
• Monitor waste containers for overflowing and take appropriate action.
• Assist in general maintenance tasks, such as repairing equipment and replacing damaged containers.
• Adhere to safety protocols and waste management regulations.
• Participate in regular safety training sessions and communicate safety concerns to management.
• Assist in emergency response procedures for spills or hazardous materials.
• Work effectively as part of a team and assist co-workers as necessary.
