About The Position

The Waste Management Specialist will perform various greenhouse gas (GHG) related waste management services for clients in the US & Canada. Those services include but are not limited to virtual and on-site verification audits, validation and verification of waste and other industrial carbon offset projects in regulatory and voluntary schemes, development of science-based targets, emissions reduction strategy development, waste surveys and waste minimization strategies, setting and achieving net zero targets, and providing GHG training. Assist with and conduct desktop and field validations and verifications of waste carbon offset projects. Audit carbon offset projects in the waste handling and disposal sector Assess, develop, and implement waste characterization studies and other assessments to evaluate waste management technologies and strategies. Quantify various attributes from waste-related data, including statistical metrics Monitor contract compliance and results of waste activities to assure adherence to regulatory requirements and/or carbon market requirements. Assess projects for waste-related carbon emissions reductions. Conduct interviews with landfill owners, waste processing equipment manufacturers, and related vendors. Prepare validation/verification and sampling plans, project reports, and articles. Support management with special waste-related projects and workflow process improvements and other duties as assigned. Consultation on waste handling and disposal project development and establishment Prepare and present educational programs for professionals in the waste handling and disposal industry regarding protocols, methodologies, issues and opportunities Assist in delivering public and private greenhouse gas (GHG) or waste minimization solutions training for clients Develop new leads for projects, evaluate opportunity and make recommendations to management, prepare proposals, including cost estimates

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental, engineering, or relevant discipline
  • 2 years of experience with greenhouse gas (GHG) standards (CARB, GHG Protocol, ISO-14064, TCFD)
  • Language Skills – Fluent in English
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
  • Travel to other SGS locations or client locations may be required from time to time.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in science, environmental, engineering, or relevant discipline
  • Accredited verifier in relevant regulatory schemes, e.g. California Air Resources Board
  • GHG Lead Auditor certified (ISO 14064-1)
  • Familiarity with ESG/sustainability reporting standards (GRI, SASB, AA1000)
