About The Position

The Center for Clean Air Policy (CCAP) is a non-governmental nonprofit promoting global ambitious climate action. Based in Washington DC with staff located worldwide, we help policymakers develop, promote, and implement innovative, market-based solutions to major climate problems that balance both environmental and economic interests. Requirements

  • Background in solid waste management and/or climate change in Belize.
  • A degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience in environmental areas, climate, or waste management (organic waste management is a plus).
  • Capable and comfortable engaging with stakeholders from the public and private sectors and maintaining dialogue on environmental issues.
  • Able to work independently and be proactive in an autonomous environment.
  • Excellent research and writing skills. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
  • Business development capabilities/oriented.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and respect for timeliness and deadlines.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Applicants must reside in Belize.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and initiate outreach with key stakeholders and decision-makers in Belize, focusing on members of town and city councils in charge of waste management topics.
  • Act as the day-to-day contact for all information requests and ongoing conversations with local focal points and relevant local and national level government agencies.
  • Set up virtual and in-person meetings and interviews for data collection and to guarantee the participation of the cities in the meetings and workshops.
  • Represent the Recycle Organics program to policymakers and stakeholders in the targeted country.
  • Build capacity of policymakers, local leaders, and other key stakeholders about methane mitigation and organic waste management.
  • Support in sending invitations for the Network and Educational Program as well as organizing events (virtual or in-person).
  • Coordinate with and update the Recycle Organics team regularly on activities and progress.
  • Support data collection efforts related to organic waste management at the local and national level.
  • Contact and visit local government officials and focal points to follow up on data/information requests and other activities related to the development of organic waste management plans and other policy tools.
  • Provide inputs on the development of local organic waste management plans.
  • Develop short reports about in-person meetings, visits, and other activities held to update the RO team about the work being done in the country.
  • Collect visual material (pictures and videos) at the on-site visits and meetings to support the communications team's work.
