The Waste Disposal Technician is responsible for the proper disposal of spent chemicals, process waste, and unused laboratory samples used in the laboratory according to corporate, federal, state and local guidelines. Responsible for safely transporting process waste and unused samples within the laboratory environment. Properly packages hazardous waste for transport per DOT, RCRA, and TSCA guidelines. Cleans and washes all glassware used by laboratory personnel. Maintains inventory and inspects for damage.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Environmental Studies or science-related
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in environmental industry
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for identification of waste streams and maintaining satellite accumulation points for laboratory waste products.
  • Packages expired chemicals for shipment or disposal.
  • Empties satellite containers into bulk containers and takes back to laboratory for reuse.
  • Maintains chemical storage area to keep it clutter-free and free of fire hazards.
  • Ships hazardous waste from the laboratory prior to the environmental laws time limit for the facility.
  • Tracks volume of waste generated for reporting to corporate and Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Prepares and tracks implementation of Waste Minimization Plan.
  • Orders and maintains chemical inventory for the laboratory.
  • Wash all glassware by hand including beakers, flasks, tubes, and cylinders.
  • Perform routine inspections of glass for cracks and breaks.
  • Remove damaged glass in order to be repaired.
  • Provides assistance to other departments/areas as needed.
