About The Position

Under general supervision, performs various advanced staff support duties and manages a variety of confidential and complex office activities within the Sheriff's Office. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least three years' experience in advanced staff support in law enforcement administrative, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • Knowledge of: County and state legal principles, practices, procedures regarding the court system; Public information rules and procedures; Records retention rules and procedures; Civil process laws and procedures; Criminal process laws and procedures; Legal terminology; Modern office procedures and equipment; Department policies, procedures and regulations covering specific areas of assignment.
  • Skill in: Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing; Maintaining strict confidentiality; Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with judges, managers, supervisor, employees, external public agencies and organizations, attorneys, teachers, bonding companies and the general public; Using initiative, discretion and decision making within established procedures, guidelines and rules; Defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusion; Performing various mathematical calculations; Performing effectively under stressful working conditions; Providing effective customer service; Multitasking; Operating a personal computer and various software applications.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the Sheriff's Mission and vision and adhere to the Office's Core Values; Trust, Service, Community
  • Cultivates high morale and team culture within the Special Services Unit;'
  • Performs all services at a high-level and is customer-service oriented
  • Ensures all activities are conducted in compliance with federal, state and local laws, as well as rules and regulations outlined in the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office manuals and County Policy and Procedure manual
  • Provides supervision and guidance to other warrant division personnel
  • Provides administrative assistance to Special Services Lieutenant
  • Assembles and compiles basic data for reports or presentations from established sources as directed
  • Performs receptionist duties by receiving calls from members of the public, responding to inquiries, providing information within scope of responsibility and referring calls to other co-workers as appropriate
  • Performs general office work, including routine filing, copying and data processing
  • Types at least 60 words per minute and remains competent and up-to-date in the use of all major Microsoft Office Applications
  • Prepares and processes and/or reissues a variety of legal documents, such as warrants, subpoenas, protective orders, and temporary restraining orders; workload focuses primarily on civil processes (i.e. writs of possession, writs of execution, writs of garnishments and writs of sequestration) and citations (i.e. suits, small claims, justice suits and criminal investigations)
  • Assists warrant and civil clerks when necessary by distributing papers to the correct patrol deputies and monitoring the recall of outdated warrants from various courts so as to ensure that citizens are not unnecessarily arrested or detained
  • Prepares tax sale documents for sales of real and personal property legally confiscated by the County
  • Prepares legal notices of citations and legal actions by arranging for posting in public places or publication in media; serves civil or small claims actions/paperwork to citizens involved in law suits
  • Cultivates high morale and teamwork among deputies and reports or resolves problems regarding morale, personality conflicts, or conduct to immediate supervisor
  • Conducts monthly validations for NCIC/TCIC warrant entries
  • Performs other duties as assigned
