About The Position

The Cook County Sheriff's Police Department Emergency Communications Center, located in Des Plaines, Illinois is seeking applicants for the position of Warrant Clerk. Clerks receive warrants from the Cook County court system and are responsible for the maintenance of warrants in various databases including Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (L.E.A.D.S.) and the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Clerks work together, in a team environment, and manage warrants.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) test certificate.
  • A minimum of one (1) year, full time professional work experience utilizing skills, knowledge and abilities comparable to those characterized herein and applicable to area of assignment.
  • Typing skills (35 w.p.m. and 90% accuracy) and familiarity with computer keyboards and data inputting, clearly legible handwriting, proficiency in spelling. Skill testing is required for this position
  • Ability to work the 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. shift at the Sheriff's Police Emergency Communications Center in Des Plaines, Illinois.
  • Required to be capable of working any shift assigned; must be capable of working Holidays and/or weekends, if required; must be capable of working overtime, if required. Must have flexibility with regards to work hours and location.
  • Required to successfully pass, within one (1) month of hire, a LEADS Certification (Law Enforcement Agency Data System) and maintain re-certification, required every two (2) years.

Nice To Haves

  • One of more years of experience with LEADS/NCIC full access that includes file maintenance tasks such as cancel, enter, modify, query and validate records.
  • Currently holds a LEADS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Receive data from the Cook County court system including new warrants, executes, quashes and recalls. Processes warrant packets that include background criminal history information for warrant entry. Conducts additional research on warrants to ensure proper information is entered into databases.
  • Cancel, enter, modifies, queries and validates databases in different computer programs such as LEADS, NCIC, IWIC, CLEAR, CLEARNET, Passport and Odyssey.
  • Organize hard copies of warrant packets including file maintenance.
  • Exercise skill in the coding, screening, sequencing, filing, copying, proofing, logging and cross-referencing of routine and complex data via hand, computer or other format (microfilm, tape, etc.); Reviews assembled material for completeness, clarity and accuracy; reconciles discrepancies by looking up data in files, cross-referencing other data and records, conferring with senior staff or telephoning other offices as required.

  • Employees may elect to enroll in a deferred compensation plan, a tax deferred plan which may be used as a supplemental retirement option.
