If you are hired provisionally in this title, you must take and pass the Civil Service Exam, when it becomes available, to be eligible for continued employment. The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible. HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA's various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, fleet administration and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

  • Supervise and train warehouse operations staff through On-the-Job-Training (OJT) and performance meetings.
  • Perform difficult and responsible supervisory work involved in the utilization of warehouse staff, material handling equipment and storage space.
  • Participate in ongoing continuous process improvements; identify ways to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Load and unload materials and supplies. Coordinate and schedule all pickups and deliveries.
  • Verify and compare receipts to purchase orders and packing slips before materials are put away to warehouse stock locations.
  • Report discrepancies and submit finalized delivery reports to procurement for reconciliation and payments.
  • Review all pick tickets and packing slip documents provided from AIM (Inventory Control System) and compare with purchase requests to ensure correctness.
  • Oversee and assist with inventory cycle counts and annual physical inventory.
  • Database management for tools loaned to Tradesmen.
  • Ensure that warehouse equipment is properly utilized to increase productivity, efficiency, safety and report any unsafe conditions/equipment or injury to Director.
  • Will oversee the warehouse in the Director's absence.
  • Two years of full-time satisfactory experience performing storekeeping activities, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Public Service Loan Forgiveness eligibility.
  • New York City residency requirement within 90 days of appointment.
