About The Position

Responsible for all shipping & receiving functions at the Woodland facility. Responsible for the organization and prioritization of all shipping and or receiving of orders. Activities include (but are not limited to) any of the processes in operations related to preparing seed for delivery to the customer, which includes receiving, drying, ECW processes, cleaning, sizing, inventory, treating, packaging, and sampling activities. This position will be expected to keep the work area, warehouse, and the facility clean. Participation in the maintenance of assigned equipment is expected.

Requirements

  • Must have word-processing experience.
  • Must have excellent visual discrimination and organizational skills.
  • Must have ability to do accurate detailed work under time constraints and deadlines and must have ability to adjust to seasonal surges in workload.
  • Must have ability to safely operate, maintain and perform minor repairs on forklifts and other warehouse machinery and equipment.
  • Must have ability to read and understand written instructions in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum five years’ shipping/receiving experience required.
  • Prior forklift operation experience
  • Must have ability to lift 55 pounds on a regular/daily basis.
  • Must be able to work with chemicals and other irritating substances.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment on a daily/regular basis.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in dusty, hot and cold conditions.
  • Must be available to work overtime during busy times of year and work weekend duty as required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the preparation of all orders for shipping. Inspects and approves all documentation for accuracy and completeness prior to shipping. Responsible for the proper and safe loading of shipments onto trucks.
  • Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment: Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.
  • Determines method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages. Responsible for the successful completion of all shipment receiving, including processing into inventory, preparation of documents, returns and purchases, while insuring that they are completed in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Review of processes and data to improve communication and or processes as needed and proactive engagement in identification of process improvements within or between departments by recognizing areas needing improvement or helping others with improvement and efficiency.
  • Ability to assign priorities to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay and manage schedule accordingly. Ability to expedite operations and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • Must maintain open communication with other departments through the shipping/delivery cycle; confirming the accuracy of invoices, bills and charges relative to the shipment of materials and goods; logging order information into systems; filing and distributing paperwork as necessary; maintaining records and generating reports for accounting and other departments as needed.
  • Responsible for keeping an adequate supply of shipping materials on hand at all times. Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
  • Support other Logistics workstations or company departments as assigned or approved by the supervisor or Lead. Additional responsibilities may be required while working in other departments.
  • Perform necessary quality checks for assigned processes, which may include seed counting, moisture testing, physical purity and other quality assurance checks. Perform data entry, data analysis, and data recording for each process as required.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and orderly work station. Proactively assist other areas in the department to maintain cleanliness throughout the warehouse.
  • Comply with SAI, State and Federal Safety requirements and promote company programs that can minimize injuries, lost time, product loss and damage.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned by the Supervisor or Lead as needed.
  • Follow all SAI quality assurance, policies and procedures as follows but not limited to this list:
  • Be aware of and personally follow all SAI policies and procedures.
  • Raise issues with Supervisor or Lead when policies or procedures are not clear or not working.
  • Keep Supervisor or Lead informed of critical tasks not done.
  • Keep Supervisor or Lead informed of issues developing.
  • Employee will participate in mandatory training regarding the GSPP handling protocols and procedures and apply all during the handling of any GSPP seeds. Employee agrees to active participation in the GSPP Program by performing the following activities related to the GSPP seed:
