About The Position

As a Yard Jockey, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the smooth operation of our yard and warehouse. You will be responsible for ensuring that all equipment is in safe and proper working order, training new employees on safety procedures and policies, and scheduling and performing regular vehicle maintenance. Additionally, you may be required to conduct minor vehicle repairs as needed.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED plus certification is required
  • Be able to work the hours assigned/needed. Overtime is sometimes required.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Prior experience as a Yard Jockey or Similar Position.
  • Knowledge of Safety Protocols and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize
  • Must be highly organized and thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and PC skills.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate a level of supply chain/logistics in a consumer product or related industry
  • Highly motivated; enthusiastic, energetic, capable of working in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe and proper maneuvering of all vehicles
  • Operate trailers, semi-trailers, and terminal tractors around the warehouse or yard
  • Unload and offload cargo
  • Inspect containers
  • Empty and replenish containers
  • Assist with docking and moving the equipment
  • Prepare trailers and other yard vehicles for processing and dispatching shipment
  • Examine the functionality of incoming and outgoing equipment
  • Keep the equipment in a safe and proper working order
  • Maintain an orderly storage lot
  • Train new vehicle drivers on safety procedures and protocols
  • Schedule and perform regular vehicle maintenance
  • Conduct minor repairs on vehicles if needed
  • Updates Warehouse Management on problem loads, and what corrective actions have been implemented.
  • Receives updates and informs customers on the status of loads.
  • Investigate product overage, shortage, and damage, and submit to Warehouse Management.
  • All other duties as assigned by management (5%)
