HERFF JONES, Supervisor, Warehouse – Arcola, IL YOUR OPPORTUNITY: The Herff Jones Cap & Gown team, based in Arcola, IL is looking for a Distribution Supervisor to join our leadership team. Here's How You’ll Make an Impact: Reporting to the Distribution Manager, the goal of the Distribution Supervisor is to challenge and support all team members as we strive toward our overall mission to be the ‘company of choice’ for the graduation apparel markets while also meeting annual financial goals of the plant and company.

Requirements

  • Supervisory position or warehouse leadership with increasing responsibility, in addition to meeting the following requirements:
  • Proven ability to motivate and lead a team to achieve daily and weekly goals.
  • In depth knowledge of major shipping carriers, industry standards and trends and troubleshooting processes.
  • Previous success managing relationships with shipping carriers.
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills, including ability to make presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Basic analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Must read, speak, and comprehend English. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work in office and warehouse settings.
  • Willingness to work additional hours during any given day, including working early mornings, shortened break time or lunch, after normal office hours and/or weekends.
  • Lifting, carrying, sitting, grasping, reaching, standing, kneeling, walking, bending, twisting.
  • Reading, communication, simple math.
  • Standing and walking across warehouse floors for 10+ hour shifts.
  • Sitting at a desk and typing.
  • Be able to regularly lift/move up to 50lbs.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to above moderate.
  • Travel to Champaign, offsites, and other plants up to 40% will be required as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred, Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage the annual budget for your respective departments in line with the overall manufacturing schedule and goals.
  • Participate in bi-weekly meetings with department leads, Distribution Manager, and Plant Manager involving individual efficiencies, production plan, and schedule attainment.
  • Follow procedures for checking in all goods coming into the specified department, coordinating inventory, and making sound business decisions to uphold our high quality and ensure the integrity of all products being manufactured and delivered to our customers on time.
  • Provide production updates to the Distribution Manager and management group via weekly production meetings and daily production reporting.
  • Day-to-day management of direct reports to assist them as they handle situations relating to functions including but not limited to: organization, communication, achieving goals, customer interactions, and scheduling production for maximum efficiency and quality.
  • Participate and serve as a leader in the Cap and Gown Division Continuous Improvement Program.
  • Actively participate in daily walkthroughs, understanding metrics and their drivers, and troubleshooting of operations.
  • Organize and lead continuous professional development for your department leads.
  • Work with Distribution Manager in succession planning activities to develop the next generation of leaders.
  • Other leadership duties as assigned.
  • Schedule staff production requirements and hold daily team meetings to communicate production goals.
  • Provide annual performance reviews to direct reports.
  • Review and approve hiring, new positions, or consolidation of positions requests, and hold employee counseling and termination meetings.
  • Prepare written job descriptions for any new positions and review existing job descriptions to keep current.
  • Review and approve employee timecards on a weekly basis for payroll deadlines.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, programs and legal regulations regarding employment, safety, employee relations and training.
