About The Position

The Warehouse Specialist II uses subject-matter knowledge and judgment to  Supervise a warehousing operation to complete assignments consisting of numerous steps varying in nature and sequence.  Typical duties include assisting in a wide variety of administrative matters, maintaining a wide variety of shipping and receiving records (stored both manually and electronically), verifying statistical reports for accuracy and completeness, compiling information, and handling and adjusting complaints. The Warehouse Specialist performs a variety of warehousing duties that requires a thorough understanding of established Hazardous  Material packaging and shipping requirements.  Work involves most of the following: verifying materials (or merchandise) against receiving documents, noting and reporting discrepancies and obvious damages, routing materials to prescribed storage locations; storing, stacking, or palletizing materials in accordance with prescribed storage methods, rearranging and taking inventory of stored materials, examining stored materials and reporting deterioration and damage, removing material from storage and preparing it for shipment.  This position requires workers to use a thorough knowledge of a warehouse work environment and routine to 1) choose among widely varying methods and procedures to process complex transactions, and 2) select or devise steps necessary to complete assignments.  This worker sorts, or weighs articles to verify receipt of items on requisition or invoice, examines stock to verify conformance to specifications, stores articles in bins, on the floor or shelves, according to identifying information, such as style, size, or type of material, fills orders or issues supplies from stock, prepares a periodic, special or perpetual inventory of stock, and requisitions articles to fill incoming orders.  This worker also compiles reports on the use of stock, adjustments of inventory counts and stock records, spoilage of or damage to stock, location changes, and refusal of shipments, may mark identifying codes, figures, or letters on articles, may distribute stock among production workers, keeping records of material issued, may make adjustments or repairs to articles carried in stock, and may cut the stock to the site to fill an order. This position is responsible for processing and coordinating the shipping of all Perishable Goods and Dangerous Goods (HAZMAT/IATA) items on behalf of the PSC Logistic and Supply Division and the Office of Contract.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be HAZMAT and/or IATA certified.
  • Must have a working knowledge of standard rules and regulations governing the transportation of materials, general application of carrier tariffs and rate tender, and documents necessary to move materials (bills of lading and air waybills).
  • Must have a working knowledge of documentation required of international shipments, packing procedures and size restrictions for international shipments, and handling for "special shipments" (hazardous materials and vaccines).
  • Must possess strong computer skills.
  • Proficient Computer Skills, experience with the computerized Elite Series Enterprise resource planning system and Warehouse Management System as part of the PSC’s system of preference.
  • Must possess adequate communication skills including the ability to read, write and understand English and basic correspondence.
  • Must project a positive and professional image to the public and co-workers.
  • May be called upon to drive/transport to an alternate location between Perry Point and North East MD.
  • Must successfully pass a drug test

Responsibilities

  • Processes and coordinates the International shipping of all Air Freight, Perishable Goods, and Dangerous Goods (HAZMAT/IATA) items on behalf of PSC Logistic and Supply Division and the Office of Contract.
  • Coordinates the shipping of all official office and medical supplies, equipment, and other property to overseas posts including hazardous materials and perishable goods with Freight Forwarders.
  • Compares information on requisitions, invoices, and shipping notices to material received or issued to verify accuracy of order. Inspects, accepts, or rejects material received.
  • Issues all shipping documents, authorizations, and letters in support of the above activities. Prepares documents to appropriate offices maintains all records of documents issued and shipments processed for overseas support.
  • Compiles and maintains an inventory of supplies needed for perishable shipments (cooler boxes, gel packs).
  • Attends department staff meetings and participates in all activities/events of the Post Logistics and Supply Directorate.
  • Responsible for fostering a positive team environment and producing quality work.
  • Responsible for appropriate conduct and/or demeanor as dictated by Didlake policy and procedure.
  • Completes required paperwork and/or documentation.
  • Completes and maintains all required Didlake training.
