The Shipping Lead plays a key role in supporting outbound shipping operations by assisting the team in accurately staging, verifying, and preparing outgoing orders for delivery or customer pickup. While not a decision-making or supervisory role, the Shipping Lead helps maintain workflow, keeps daily tasks on track, and serves as a resource for team members by leading through example. The ideal candidate thrives in a “team-first” environment and has a passion for customer service.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
At least 1 year of experience in a warehouse, shipping, or distribution environment
Basic computer proficiency (email, scanning tools, shipping systems)
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures
Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a physically active environment
Ability to lead by example and promote a positive, team-first mindset

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with plumbing, irrigation, or construction-related products
Prior experience in a lead, senior, or team support role within a warehouse or shipping setting
Experience using ERP or shipping software systems
Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

Responsibilities

Stage, verify, and prepare outgoing shipments for delivery or customer pickup
Review packing slips and shipping documents to ensure order accuracy prior to loading
Load and unload trucks using appropriate material handling equipment
Package, band, wrap, and label materials according to shipping requirements
Verify quantities, item numbers, and product condition before shipment
Help guide the daily flow of shipping tasks to support on-time deliveries and pickups
Assist with routing, staging, and organizing orders by delivery route or pickup area
Support and coach team members on proper packing, labeling, and safe handling procedures
Communicate shipping discrepancies, shortages, damages, or delays to the Shipping Supervisor
Coordinate with delivery drivers and internal departments to ensure smooth outbound operations
Perform basic system transactions related to shipping and order completion
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe staging and loading area
Report equipment issues and safety concerns promptly
Follow and promote established safety, quality, and handling standards
Support other warehouse or shipping functions as needed
