Warehouse Generalists at the full-performance level work independently under general supervision and will perform work in one or more work units. They are expected to develop proficiency in the work that they perform and take the Sponsor-specific training indicated below to ensure that they can safely and effectively operate the necessary equipment. Duties/Tasks and Responsibilities With only general guidance, full-performance Warehouse Generalists will be expected to perform one or more of the below work duties as well as other ad hoc warehouse tasks in support of the Sponsor's mission: Safely operate material handling equipment such as: gas/diesel/electric-powered forklifts of various capacities ranging from 1,000 to 50,000 lbs.; pallet jacks; hand trucks; automatic or manual shrink wrap machines; warehouse scales; banding and strapping equipment; wheeled carts and cages; J-bars; dock and lift gate equipment; and packing tape dispensers. Tasks related to office moves and relocations such as: manual lifting and lowering of boxes, totes, bins, and furniture; wrapping of furniture and other items using furniture pads or stretch wrap; assisting in the team lift of safes and other heavy material onto the appropriate dollies, skids, or material handling equipment. Utilization of manual and/or electric hand tools for activities such as: mounting or dismounting white boards, pictures, and electronic equipment; assisting with measuring and cutting wood and the assembly of crates used for the packaging of non-standard items. Receiving and distribution functions such as: pick-up and delivery functions; validation of material contents against packing lists and manifests; inspection of received material for damage; loading and unloading of material to/from trucks, trailers, vans, and other commercial vehicles; preparation of appropriate shipping documentation and labeling according to shipping method. Packing and Crating functions such as: following existing policies and procedures for proper packing and crating of material to be shipped; providing input but seeking out guidance for the packing of hazardous materials; performing all established packing steps for a wide variety of standard and non-standard items to be shipped; determining appropriate packing material to be utilized; measuring and cutting wood for the construction of custom crating; constructing custom crates; assisting with blocking and bracing of material; assisting with the design and assembly of custom crates; measuring and cutting non-standard boxes; weighing, cubing, banding and applying burlap to packages; utilizing lnstapak and other packing materials; preparing proper documentation for packages containing HAZMAT. Perform routine maintenance on equipment utilized in conjunction with the execution of these duties to include: oiling, cleaning and changing of filters. Processes documents and manifests /or materials and readies them for distribution. Receives and sorts materials according to correct office/organization for daily delivery. Packages and properly marks materials prior to transport and delivery Ensures safe and secure transport of documents/materials within Agency facilities and other Government Agencies within the Washington metropolitan area. Distributes materials, collecting authorized signatures from the addressees upon delivery. Organizes the daily run to ensure expeditious, efficient and timely deliveries, anticipating and planning for alternative routes as a back-up. Ensures safety procedures are being followed. Completes entries into and monitors a tracking database for daily activities. Scans all material into the document control system to ensure accountability. Scans signed receipts upon return to ensure accountability transfer and delivery verification May serve as the customer service representative and assist in the resolution of customer problems and issues; i.e., delays or inability to affect deliveries, depending on area of assignment. Maintains contact with recipient/customer regarding status of problem and estimated time of resolution. Escalates problems to management as appropriate May coordinate daily activities of team officers depending on area of assignment. Receives requests for deliveries via phone calls, electronic mail, or in-person requests. Prepares manifests to include date, time, type of delivery and destination. Communicates regarding status of deliveries and any changes to routes. Modifies schedules as new requests for services are received; updates list of cleared individuals within the IC authorized to receive classified material. Assists the government in ensuring a balanced distribution of workload among couriers, team members maintaining the duty list of employees on call and monitoring the hours worked Other duties as assigned.
