GENERAL SUMMARY The Warehouse Associate is a vital member of the St. Matthew’s House Food Assistance Team, responsible for assisting with logistics, maintaining inventory integrity, and supporting the organization’s mission through hands-on leadership and community engagement. This role requires initiative, professionalism, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Associates are expected to uphold high standards of safety, efficiency, and service while interacting with donors, volunteers, and staff. As a key link between the warehouse and other departments, this position plays an essential role in ensuring that donated goods are processed, stored, and distributed in a timely and mission-aligned manner.

Requirements

  • Ability to work under a deadline, both with others and independently.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, organizational and time-management skills.
  • Valid driver’s license (required)
  • Ability to operate electric pallet jack and forklift (preferred or certifiable)
  • Previous warehouse or logistics experience preferred
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in a physically demanding environment
  • Strong organizational skills

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Some warehouse experience necessary but will train.
  • Must be able to lift and carry more than 50lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate company vehicles for donation pickups and deliveries
  • Load, unload, and organize goods to maximize warehouse efficiency
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with stock rotation
  • Coordinate with retail and outreach teams to fulfill supply requests
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and cleanliness standards
  • Provide excellent customer service during donation pickups
  • Operate electric pallet jacks and forklifts to move heavy inventory
  • Inspect incoming donations for quality and suitability
  • Assist with donation sorting, tagging, and categorization
  • Monitor warehouse supply levels and report shortages
  • Support donation drives and community outreach events
  • Train and mentor new warehouse assistants
  • Prepare outgoing shipments and verify documentation
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and report maintenance needs
  • Collaborate with supervisors to improve warehouse workflow and efficiency
  • Lead FIFO (First-In, First-Out) procedures to ensure proper inventory rotation for the community choice pantry, mobile food distributions, and program order fulfillment.
  • Perform daily temperature checks on all refrigerators and freezers to ensure food safety compliance
  • Report and log any temperature discrepancies or equipment malfunctions immediately
  • Ensure proper storage of perishable items according to health and safety guidelines
  • Assist in maintaining food safety documentation and compliance with inspections
  • Assists Program Manager and Director with annual inventory audits.
  • Assist with leading volunteer groups in the warehouse, providing guidance, safety instruction, and task coordination.
