About The Position

The Seasonal Peak Associate role in the Distribution Center (“DC”) at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is a seasonal position responsible for performing a variety of DC functions based on the needs of the business, including induction, palletizing, recovery and splitting. This role may physically sort and distribute cases of merchandise onto store pallets in accordance with OSJL’s standard operating procedures in order to achieve the productivity, safety and quality standards established by the Company. The Seasonal Peak Associate role sorts products into cartons and re-packs, re-tickets, and re-works assorted products as directed. Additional responsibilities may include breaking down pallets coming from stores and organizing pallets into specific storage areas for further re-work as well as processing defective products, returns, and recyclables as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to complete all position-specific training and pass tests including, but not limited to: Powered Industrial Equipment training and licensing test; and Area Proficiency test.
  • Ability to safely and effectively operate walk-behind, rider jacks, sweepers or battery change equipment as required.
  • Ability to learn how to utilize RF scanning devices.
  • Basic math and English reading skills, legible handwriting, and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong communication skills and have the ability to build and maintain a culture of trust and respect.
  • Capable of embracing the ideas of others (even if they conflict with your own) for the sake of the Company. Commit time, focus, and energy to develop future OSJL leaders by motivating them around a common purpose and vision.
  • Able to handle multiple projects at once, and can organize multiple projects around given deadlines.
  • Can work with a minimum amount of supervision and be capable of strategically prioritizing multiple tasks in a proactive manner. Understand the tools and processes needed to meet larger strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all recovery, shipping, picking and special projects functions in an accurate, productive, and safe manner.
  • Correctly operate an radio frequency (“RF”) scanning device as well as assign and remove pallets in and out of split lines.
  • Operate manual and electric pallet jacks, to include walk-behind and rider jacks, as well as walkie-40 equipment.
  • Distinguish, sort, and distribute different kinds of merchandise.
  • Verify case-packs and descriptions.
  • Build shippable pallets and operate the wrapping machine safely and efficiently.
  • Break down returned pallets and organize into designated areas.
  • Be able to do batching as well as zone induction picking tasks.
  • Maintain a neat, orderly, and clean work space to meet or exceed area safety, quality, and productivity standards.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures and Policies as well as applicable state and federal regulations, including, but not limited to OSHA regulations.
  • Follow procedures to properly inspect and sign-out equipment on a daily basis.
