About The Position

Job Summary: Provides indirect and direct patient care in the OR setting. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Prepares and compiles records in the Medical Surgical Unit. Initiates directions from physician and nursing staff. Participates in performance improvement activities. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies and procedures and standards. Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to acutely ill patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in charge of the floor and/or unit.

Requirements

  • Adheres to dress code standards; appearance is neat and clean. Has name badge displayed above waist when on duty.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state federal and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains and ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Utilizes time clock system, time off requests and scheduling programs appropriately and effectively.
  • Attends staff meeting, completes yearly competencies, and additional training/ meetings as required. .
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, and safety and infection control.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision and core values of the hospital.
  • Current LPN licensure in State of Kansas.
  • Current BLS (CPR) certification.
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Minimum of six months to one year of related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Log Book – Update at beginning of shift – prior to erasing admits/dismissals from the board and continue to update throughout the shift.
  • Update the white board with the staff assignments.
  • Check the coffee pot for guests/patients. Start a fresh pot when needed. Stock coffee items as needed.
  • Print a physician list for the hospitalist daily. Include ICU.
  • Daily Stats are to be completed every day at 0800.
  • Daily charges for patient charge items are entered daily.
  • Answers telephone/intercom in a polite manner and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.
  • Order unit copy paper from purchasing as needed
  • Verify patient chart link orders and provide copies to assigned nurses. Refer to 2 East Unit Clerk book for further details on specific department orders.
  • Assist with admissions to the floor by preparing the chart, pulling orders, and pulling necessary documents for patient completion: Medicare form and vaccine form if indicated.
  • Prepares the necessary documents for the patients discharge to home or facility. Works closely with discharge planner regarding outside resources the patient may receive. Calls and schedules follow-up with PCP.
  • Uses AIDET
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrates compliance with no pass rule. Will not pass a call light going off. Will promptly answer call lights.

  • Assists aides on the floor as needed with answering call lights and patient tasks
