The WAN Specialist II is responsible for the production support, stability, and evolution of COCC’s enterprise wide area network. This role supports critical networking services including carrier circuits, routers, switches, Internet connectivity, and SD‑WAN platforms (Velocloud), with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and continuous improvement. You’ll work hands‑on with modern network and monitoring technologies that support mission‑critical financial services clients, alongside a collaborative team that values automation, operational excellence, and knowledge sharing. As a WAN Specialist II, you will support and enhance COCC’s WAN infrastructure by responding to client requests and proactively identifying performance and connectivity issues across client‑server and Internet‑facing environments. In coordination with Network Architects, you will troubleshoot complex network problems, analyze performance metrics, and drive resolution in a production environment. You will design and implement new network solutions, as well as manage upgrades and improvements to existing WAN platforms. This includes coordinating and escalating with service providers such as AT&T, Comcast, and other vendors to install new circuits, restore service, and resolve chronic network issues. In addition, you will contribute to operational efficiency by developing and maintaining automation and monitoring solutions using tools such as xMatters, Grafana, NetBrain, and GitLab Duo. These efforts will help streamline processes, improve visibility, and ensure consistent, repeatable network operations across the environment. You'll bring demonstrated experience and hands on skills in routing, switching, WAN technologies, and network automation that is complemented by an understanding of DevOps practices and core networking fundamentals. You also possess working knowledge of scripting or coding languages used to support automation, integration, and monitoring initiatives. As a WAN Specialist II, you are expected to mentor and support WAN Specialist I teammates, sharing knowledge, promoting best practices, and serving as a technical role model. You demonstrate strong leadership in day‑to‑day operations, take ownership of issues through resolution, and communicate effectively with teammates, vendors, and stakeholders. Your ability to balance technical depth with operational discipline helps ensure a stable, scalable, and well‑supported network environment.
