About The Position

Northwest Public Broadcasting (NWPB) with the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication is a trusted source of quality content, dedicated to enriching communities through distinctive programs that engage, enlighten, and entertain. Licensed to Washington State University, NWPB reaches over 3.6 million people across 44 counties in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and British Columbia—serving as the sole public radio provider for nearly half of that audience. The Walla Walla Community Reporter is a journalist for Northwest Public Broadcasting (NWPB) who is focused on community issues and people in the Walla Walla Valley. As directed by the Multimedia New Director, you will source, research, write, record, and edit for audio and web news pieces and social media content. You will also work closely with editors and other internal team members to ensure the highest quality of standards and journalistic integrity that NWPB is known for. This position is located in Walla Walla, WA. Additional Information: This is a full-time ( 100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible. This is a temporary position that is renewed on an annual basis. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Requirements

  • Position requires a Bachelor’s degree in broadcasting, mass communications, or closely related field, and two (2) years of radio broadcast and/or news reporting experience, which has included experience in gathering, writing, editing, and producing news and feature reports.
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual/bi-literate Spanish/English.
  • Experience publishing and/or maintaining websites.
  • Experience or training in new technologies for the gathering and delivery of news.
  • Experience in podcasting in a production role.
  • Ability to use social media in a news environment.

Responsibilities
