About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented WAF Coordinator to support operations within our WAF department in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is responsible for coordinating and overseeing all assigned Test and WAF Coordinators, ensuring Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), tests, and inspections are executed safely, accurately, and in compliance with Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) requirements. The WAF Coordinator ensures all contracted WAFs, testing, and documentation are completed, closed, and reported to the customer in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience with the U.S. Navy Tag-Out Program, TUM, and JFMM strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend work specifications, technical publications, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with shipboard departments and contractors at all levels.
  • Intermediate computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Willingness to work varying hours, including second shift, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Ability to travel and occasionally ride customer ships, including out-of-area assignments.
  • Physically capable of climbing vertical ladders, scaffolding, and working at heights.
  • Must have reliable transportation to multiple work locations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, assign, and oversee Test and WAF Coordinators across multiple projects.
  • Establish task guidelines, milestones, and performance monitoring for assigned coordinators.
  • Process Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) in accordance with the Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) to ensure strict personnel and ship safety compliance.
  • Set up and manage the Work Task Control (WTC) Office on new availability projects, maintaining accurate and timely WAF processing from submittal through completion.
  • Review new WAFs for accuracy, completeness, and safety using comprehensive knowledge of ship systems, components, and operations.
  • Serve as the primary customer service interface to resolve isolation conflicts between ships force and contractors using ship drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Coordinate system and component restoration through WAF revisions or completions to ensure safe execution of maintenance testing and trials.
  • Track and maintain the status of all WAFs using WAF logs, indexes, summaries, and progress reports to meet project schedules and milestones.
  • Certify that all WAFs, tests, and inspections are completed and closed satisfactorily.
  • Ensure all required WAF and test documentation is submitted, settled, and reported to the customer.
  • Train and qualify contractors and ships force personnel in WAF and tag-out procedures in accordance with Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) requirements.
  • Assist contractors in establishing Electronic Work Authorization Form (EWAF) accounts and provide training as needed.
  • Maintain accurate WAF/tag-out training rosters, databases, and qualification plans for government review.
  • Initiate Corrective Action Requests (CARs) and exercise sound judgment when WAF violations occur.
  • Prepare and maintain Condition Found Reports (CFRs) related to WAF work packages and training.
  • Review and draft change recommendations to Navy Standard Item Instructions, user manuals, and maintenance manuals related to WAF processes.
  • Independently navigate SMARTS systems and manage time effectively to obtain work completion certifications supporting key project events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
