About The Position

The WAE - Nurse Practitioner or WAE - Physician Assistant is responsible for the delivery of primary medical care to a student population focusing on preventative, maintenance and restorative care and employing evidence-based practice. Functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team in the Medical Clinics, consisting of physicians, physician's assistants and nurse practitioners. Should have a deep appreciation for a collaborative care model, partnering with all areas of the SHC, and be committed to advancing the divisional priorities of commitment to quality, communicating a sense of home, designing with everyone in mind, and cultivating a working relationship with Our Lady of the Lake Health.

Requirements

  • Master's In Science, Nursing from an accredited college or university or Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies
  • Board Certification: Possess a certification by a nationally recognized certifying body, such as the AANP or LSBME.
  • RN License - APRN License or Physician Assistant License
  • DEA: Federal drug enforcement agency license
  • CDS: Louisiana State Controlled Substance License
  • BLS/CPR

Responsibilities

  • Provides assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate medical management for acute illnesses, injuries and stable chronic illnesses as well as primary care services such as health maintenance care and annual physicals
  • Orders appropriate diagnostic tests, prescribes medication, performs minor surgical procedures, and makes specialty, counseling and coaching referrals as appropriate
  • Documents care in the electronic health record, employing care protocols and proper coding
  • Seeks consultation with director/ physician in maintaining both acute and chronic cases as needed.
  • Participates in unit meetings, campus education initiatives, quality improvement activities, mandatory LSU trainings and SHC yearly trainings, peer review and performance improvement studies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
