About The Position

Job Summary: The Field Maintenance Light Equipment Operator is a light equipment operator who leads crews and performs duties related to the construction and maintenance of public works projects, utilities, and parks. This position is authorized to drive a city vehicle and is considered a safety-sensitive position. Specific Duties: Leads and participates in the work of crews performing manual labor and semi- skilled tasks in public works projects, utility projects, parks, and grounds maintenance Operates moderate to light equipment including dump trucks, boom trucks, skip loaders, front end loaders, bobcat attachments, weed cutters, mowers and hedgers, cement mixers, tank trucks, patch trucks, ditch witches, backhoes and various other equipment in support of a variety of maintenance operations Performs other related duties as required Essential Functions: Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written communications Ability to operate commercial telephones and a two-way radio Ability to operate a variety of moderate to light power-driven equipment Ability to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications and technical manuals Ability to perform duties for extended periods of time in extreme weather Ability to maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing, bending or sitting for extended periods of time Ability to maintain effective audio visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others and operating assigned equipment and vehicles Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects and materials up to 100 pounds Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or Licenses: High school diploma or GED Class C Groundwater License Class II Wastewater License T he ability to obtain both of the above licenses within the time frame allocated by state regulations Minimum of two years experience in maintenance work involving the skilled operation of moderate to light utility construction and maintenance Valid Texas Drivers License Acceptable Experience and Training: A combination of education and experience that indicates a level of skill and knowledge necessary to fulfill the duties of the position may be considered in lieu of the education and experience requirements listed above. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Class C Groundwater License
  • Class II Wastewater License
  • The ability to obtain both of the above licenses within the time frame allocated by state regulations
  • Minimum of two years experience in maintenance work involving the skilled operation of moderate to light utility construction and maintenance
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
