This is a seasonal position in the County Parks system, generally working full- time from April or May through mid-October. Employees in this class are appointed by the Facilities Director and supervised by the Parks/Office Supervisor in the County Facilities Department. Employees perform guest registration and cashiering in a general store setting to include some manual work requiring some acquired skills. Employees exercise independent judgment, which is limited primarily to routine tasks. Complete the computer registration process, both inputting and retrieving information, efficiently and accurately with minimum delay to guests. Receives money and credit card charges, makes change, prepares receipts, records money and credit card charges and balances for the same using a POS cash register. Acquaints guests with the campground regulations, basic rules and services at the campground and in the area. Promote and educate guests on environmental and recycling policies and procedures. Provides professional and courteous service and basic area information to Goose Island guests via telephone and in person. Addresses guest concerns. Resolves any campsite discrepancies. Promotes, sells and assists with campground merchandise, activities and services such as miniature golf, canoe rentals, honey wagon service and propane. Fills propane tanks. Stocks and cleans campground store shelves. Sweeps, vacuums and dusts. Lifts and empties trash barrels. Handles and stacks firewood and/or ice. Maintains daily communication logs. Occasionally cleans and services restrooms, shower houses and the campground. Drives truck and utility vehicle to check campground, verify campground registrations and haul garbage. Maintains valid drivers' license and good driving record, and advises Parks/Office Supervisor of driving infractions. Reports and/or responds immediately to any unsafe conditions. Notifies maintenance of necessary repairs. Contacts proper authorities by telephone or two-way radio in the event of emergencies. Understands and adheres to La Crosse County policies and procedures. Removes Litter. Protects park property from abuse, such as vandalism or violations of park rules and regulations. Carries and operates a two-way radio for communication with co-workers and supervisor when in the field. This is a public service position, and employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful at all times, with the public and guests. Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors, and public officials. Responsible for working safely and following safety practices and standards of the facility; responsible for reporting or correcting any existing or potential safety or accident hazard. Physical demands: Lifts and dumps barrels of garbage weighing approx. 60 lbs. Occasionally lifts up to 100 lbs. with assistance. Rides and operates lawn mowers and other power equipment. Wears safety equipment, such as goggles, gloves, and ear protection. Carries and uses power trimmer weighing approx. 20 lbs. Bends, twists, crouches and kneels while scrubbing bathrooms. Sweeps, mops and carries buckets of water. Splits wood. Handles, carries and operates various equipment such as hand and power tools, chainsaws, shovels, pick, hammer and brooms. Reaches and uses arms and hands for carrying equipment, painting and other maintenance work. Occasionally climbs ladders and works at heights to paint, repair roofs, or other functions. Drives truck. Walks, pushes, pulls, bends, twists, reaches, crouches and kneels while performing duties. Occasionally climbs hills and walks uneven terrain. Uses near and far vision. Comprehends and carries out oral and written instructions. Uses some independent judgment. Works outdoors in all types of weather during months of April through October. Dramatic shifts in temperature, dust, noise, vibrations and mechanical hazards are factors. Hazards exist in operating mechanical equipment listed above and fire hazards when filling gas tanks on equipment. Reads and writes instructions and records. May stand for up to 8 hours per shift. Tasks may involve exposure to blood/body fluids. Related Job Functions May be involved in inventory and supply ordering.
