About The Position

Genesis Capital (the “Company”) is one of the largest business purpose lenders in the country, focused on providing commercial real estate financing solutions to real estate developers who buy, renovate, and sell single-family and/or multi-family residential real estate. The Company is a subsidiary of Rithm Capital (parent company), a publicly traded mortgage real estate investment trust. Responsible for management, training, resolving underwriting escalations, and the ongoing development of the credit underwriting staff. The Underwriting Manager will oversee the underwriting function, ensuring underwriting duties are performed thoroughly, timely, and in accordance with established guidelines and polices to appropriately identify and mitigate risks. The VP, Underwriting Manager, will be responsible for assigning underwriting assignments and managing the underwriting pipeline. These duties will include coordinating with the following teams: credit, operations, lending, and legal to ensure workflow is adjusted to adapt to changes in priorities. The VP, Underwriting Manager, will serve as the initial escalation point to resolve underwriting questions and will escalate, as necessary, matters to the Credit Team in accordance with the table of authority for resolution. At the direction of the Credit Team the VP, Underwriting Manager will be charged with screening complicated or large loan requests to ensure accuracy and periodic review of random samples of loan and sponsor approval memorandums to ensure quality and accuracy. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, or related field (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum 10+ years of real estate lending experience related to credit underwriting experience, including at least 5 years in a managerial, supervisory or lead role.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting, banking, private credit, real estate finance, and construction lending.
  • Proven ability to manage and develop a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; experience with underwriting systems.
  • Highly Proficient/Advanced in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and database applications.
  • Leadership and team-building skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor credit and underwriting staff, providing training, performance feedback, and professional development.
  • Assign and prioritize underwriting tasks to ensure timely completion of loan and sponsor reviews.
  • Review and approve complex credit and asset underwriting decisions and escalate issues to credit management as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal departments regarding underwriting issues and resolutions.
  • Participate in hiring decisions and workforce planning for the underwriting team.
  • Serves as the primary contact and liaison for underwriting with credit, operations, lending, and legal to ensure workflow is adjusted to adapt to changes in priorities.
  • In conjunction with the Credit Team, establish underwriting criteria and guidelines to ensure quality underwriting and sound credit practices.
  • Implement best practices and technology solutions to ensure efficient and high-quality production across the underwriting group.
  • With support and direction from the Credit Team, identify areas and implement solutions to enhance processes and procedures across underwriting and pipeline management.
  • In conjunction with the Credit Team, update and maintain credit underwriting policies and manuals to serve as a reference tool for existing employees and an onboarding tool for new hires.
  • Perform underwriting duties on high-risk or complex transactions as needed.
  • Monitor adherence to company policies, lending guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct quality control audits on underwritten files to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and implement process improvements for underwriting operations.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and tracking of team productivity and loan pipeline status.
  • With Credit Management oversight, implement a tiered training program for new hires and employees to expand Asset Underwriters' skillset and create a broader understanding of asset underwriting and credit underwriting.
