About The Position

The VP Strategic Supply Chain is a senior executive responsible for developing and executing comprehensive supply chain strategies that support shipbuilding programs and government contracting requirements for Birdon America. This role ensures the timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery of materials, components, and services critical to naval and defense projects. The position demands expertise in global sourcing, logistics, supplier management, and regulatory compliance within highly complex, large-scale manufacturing environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years’ experience with strategic sourcing and supply chain leadership within shipbuilding, defense or heavy manufacturing systems.
  • Extensive experience implementing CPSR preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of supply chain management techniques, practices or theories.
  • Familiarity with US Coast Guard (USCG) and Department of War (DOW) supply chain contracting, with a strong working knowledge of FAR, DFAR, HSAR and CASB requirements in support of US government contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Birdon’s supply chain across multiple maritime engineering programs, projects, and locations, including purchasing, warehousing, logistics, resource planning, material cost, forecasting, schedule performance, risk/opportunity management, supplier performance, and bid/tender support.
  • Develop acquisition/sourcing strategies and lead activities for all phases of the Business Acquisition Process, including RFPs.
  • Ensure program supply chains have completed and accurate schedules, budgets, make/buy plans, and procurement and subcontract strategies.
  • Achieve ‘best value for money’ solutions, balancing price, quantity, lead-time, and quality.
  • Manage the relationship cycle with strategically significant vendors.
  • Ensure adherence to FAR / FAR regulations and other government procurement standards.
  • Manage audit readiness and reporting for government contract requirements.
  • Lead and implement supplier quality processes and systems, including supplier risk assessments, quality agreements, and audits.
  • Develop and track performance metrics for all levels of supply chain activities, including supplier performance, supplier quality (in collaboration with the Quality team), internal order placement performance, and buyer activity levels.
