About The Position

The VP, Specialized Units is responsible for overseeing the editorial strategy, management, and creative direction of the Specialized Units within ABC News. This role involves centralizing reporting efforts, prioritizing assignments, and ensuring effective communication across platforms. The VP will lead teams in producing unique and compelling stories while collaborating with various departments to align coverage with the needs of the News Groups. A strong understanding of journalism ethics and excellence is essential for this position.

Requirements

• 10+ years in a managerial position in a TV newsroom/production environment.
• Ability to recognize, create, and communicate priorities, strategies, market opportunities, and challenges.
• Strategy experience, preferably within a news and/or creative environment.
• Strong understanding of financials that underpin a large, complex, consumer-facing business, ideally with experience in multi-million dollar P&Ls.
• Proven ability to develop and lead initiatives requiring broad-based buy-in for success.
• Strong understanding of the creative process and ability to apply creative sensibility to content.
• Ability to influence and work through others in a highly matrixed organization.
• Exhibit strong collaboration and influencing skills.
• Deep interest in news and storytelling.

Responsibilities

• Lead the editorial strategy and vision for the Specialized Units as a member of the senior leadership team.
• Manage several teams of reporters with various news specialties.
• Assign teams to important stories and allocate reporting resources accordingly.
• Provide direction and feedback on stories, pitches, and topics for the unit's leadership team.
• Champion a collaborative and diverse culture that promotes idea generation and open communication.
• Partner with HR, Finance, and Operations, as well as other relevant departments.
