About The Position

This VP, Service Integration opportunity is for a senior technology executive who thrives in highly complex, mission-critical healthcare environments and brings a blend of deep technical expertise, operational discipline, and enterprise leadership. The role focuses on stabilizing and modernizing Tier-1 clinical platforms while delivering secure, reliable caregiver access at scale. The Vice President, Service Integration supports and advances the Providence St. Joseph Health (PSJH) mission, values, and philosophy, serving as a role model for operational excellence, accountability, and stewardship. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Chief of Applications and Technology, this role provides strategic and technical leadership for the Epic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) infrastructure and associated end-user access platforms across the enterprise. The position has enterprise accountability for the stability, availability, and performance of Tier-1 clinical applications, ensuring uninterrupted access for approximately 85,000 caregivers across Providence St. Joseph Health. A core accountability is ownership of the Citrix virtual application and desktop environment, ensuring secure, high-performing, and consistent access to Epic and other mission-critical systems. The VP, Service Integration defines and executes the strategy for next-generation Epic infrastructure, including cloud-enabled architectures and modernized virtual access solutions, to improve system stability, operational efficiency, disaster recoverability, and overall caregiver experience. This highly visible leadership role requires frequent interaction with executive IT leadership, clinical stakeholders, and strategic technology partners, ensuring Epic access and virtual desktop services are secure, resilient, and fully aligned with Providence’s clinical and operational priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Services, Business Management, or related field; or equivalent education/experience.
  • 10+ years of technical leadership and supervisory experience.
  • 15+ years of total relevant IT experience.
  • Proven success leading large‑scale, Tier‑1, highly available infrastructure platforms.
  • Architecture-level understanding of enterprise IT infrastructure and virtual access technologies.
  • Strong technical aptitude paired with executive‑level communication skills.
  • Proven ability to lead multiple concurrent, high‑risk initiatives across complex organizations.
  • Excellent collaboration, team‑building, and stakeholder‑management skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in high‑visibility, high‑pressure environments.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Information Services or Business Administration (preferred)
  • 8+ years supporting Epic EMR environments within a healthcare setting (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership, oversight, and execution for PSJH’s Epic EMR and application infrastructure across hospitals, clinics, affiliates, and external customers.
  • Define and maintain a multi‑year roadmap for Tier‑1 application infrastructure, anticipating capacity, performance, and availability requirements.
  • Act as a catalyst for innovation by evaluating emerging technologies and challenging conventional infrastructure approaches when appropriate.
  • Own and stabilize the Epic infrastructure stack with emphasis on uptime, scalability, and resilience.
  • Lead the design, optimization, and hardening of the Citrix virtual application and desktop environment supporting enterprise Epic access.
  • Ensure consistent, secure, and high‑performance caregiver access to Epic and other Tier‑1 platforms.
  • Ensure Epic and application infrastructure meets enterprise standards for high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and recoverability.
  • Schedule and lead regular HA and DR testing in coordination with Business Continuity teams.
  • Proactively identify, manage, and communicate risks and incidents, escalating appropriately across impacted areas.
  • Participate in critical‑incident on‑call rotation as needed to ensure enterprise coverage.
  • Serve as PSJH’s lead technical liaison to Epic, Citrix, and other EMR technology vendors.
  • Lead technical certification, testing, and compliance activities required to maintain Epic designations such as Honor Roll status.
  • Partner with IS Strategy and Business Development to evaluate technologies impacting clinical users and caregiver workflows.
  • Maintain Epic and application‑infrastructure budgets; ensure initiatives remain within approved funding.
  • Develop capital and operating budget estimates and provide variance reporting as required.
  • Serve as technical lead for multiple large‑scale, high‑risk initiatives running concurrently across organizational boundaries.
  • Lead and develop high‑performing infrastructure and platform teams.
  • Provide coaching, performance feedback, and career development planning for team members.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, resilience, collaboration, and service excellence.
