The Opportunity Motivated by the highest possible stakes of climate change and global health, at Hach (www.hach.com), a Veralto company, we're working together within a rapidly digitizing industry to find innovative technologies that guarantee the safety of water and our environment. Reporting to Hach’s President and based in Colorado (or able to relocate) allowing on-site working 4-5 days a week at our Loveland HQ, the VP R&D will lead a strong global R&D organization including product development, engineering and chemistry innovation across sites in Loveland, Germany, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium and China. The position has arisen due to retirement after a long tenure and offers the chance to further build on a strong platform, shape and execute global strategy, drive improvements and modernization, increase innovation velocity, develop talent and deliver market-leading solutions that ensure customer and commercial success.

Requirements

  • Senior R&D Executive with 15+ years of product development leadership within large, global matrixed organizations
  • Highly collaborative, results-focused leader who inspires exceptional performance and high accountability across multiple globally disparate sites, continually develops talent and encourages innovation and continuous improvement
  • Comfortable in fast‑paced environments with evolving priorities, innovation cycles, and at times ambiguity. Strategic agility to balance long-term technology vision with near term execution. Makes informed, timely decisions sometimes with incomplete data
  • High technical credibility (embedded systems, firmware development, connectivity, IoT, AI/ML etc), combined with strong commercial and customer success orientation
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and listening skills with ability to influence executive stakeholders and articulate technical concepts to varied audiences. High level of humility and low-ego.
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or related technical field
  • Based in Colorado (or willing to relocate with our support) to allow on-site working 4-5 days a week in Loveland.
  • ~30% international travel to R&D and manufacturing sites

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in water quality, environmental instrumentation, analytical chemistry, industrial IoT, or regulated industrial technologies are all useful but not critical

Responsibilities

  • Technology Strategy & Execution Develop and execute a multi‑year technology strategy that aligns with Hach’s business goals and Veralto’s strategic priorities Establish architectural direction across hardware, software, cloud, firmware, connectivity, and data platforms Drive modernization of legacy technologies into unified, modular, scalable platforms Identify emerging technologies and trends impacting water quality, digital ecosystems, AI/ML, data analytics, and regulatory compliance
  • Product Development & Innovation Lead global R&D and engineering teams in delivering innovative, high-quality products (reliable, secure and sustainable) from concept through commercialization‑quality products Increase innovation velocity and modernize R&D processes, tools, and ways of working Oversee development of cloud-connected hardware products and instrumentation platforms‑connected products, analytics tools, and instrumentation platforms Ensure strong integration between Product Management, Quality, Operations, and Commercial teams to deliver products that meet market, customer, and regulatory requirements. Use VES (Veralto Enterprise System) methodologies to improve cycle time, quality, innovation, and productivity
  • Organizational Leadership Lead, develop, and inspire a high performing global technology organization Build bench strength and attract top engineering and technology talent. Cultivate, mentor and grow a group of technological subject-matter experts for critical water technologies Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement Collaborate across the Veralto Water Quality platform to leverage shared technology assets, partnerships, and best practices Cross Functional Collaboration‑Functional Collaboration Partner with Manufacturing and Operations to ensure strong DFX (design for manufacturability, quality, service) Participate in strategic planning, M&A evaluation, and due diligence for technology- based opportunities Represent Hach’s technology agenda with customers, regulatory bodies, and external partners as needed
