About The Position

Our team partners closely with fundamental portfolio managers and analysts at TD Epoch to support the investment process through advanced quantitative research, as well as robust risk management and portfolio optimization. We develop proprietary alpha models, portfolio analytics, and interactive dashboards to empower data-driven decisions, while exploring thoughtful applications of NLP and Generative AI to unlock new insights and enhance investment performance. By combining quantitative rigor with fundamental expertise, we drive innovation and continuous improvement across strategies. The Vice President - Research Analyst is responsible for researching and analyzing companies and generating investment ideas. The Vice President - Research Analyst researches companies across an assigned capitalization, industry and/or geographical spectrum. The Vice President - Research Analyst works within the framework of the equity strategies, which are based on a free cash flow methodology that blends fundamental and quantitative insights.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required plus an MBA and/or CFA preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of success in the strategy, sector and/or geography to which they are assigned, utilizing a methodology similar to that of the firm, i.e. free cash flow metrics rather than accounting terminology
  • A highly developed skill set in developing a view on a company as a result of detailed financial modeling as well as industry and company research
  • An ability and willingness to research investment ideas in other sectors and geographies as necessary
  • An ability to combine a macro / global understanding with fundamental stock-picking that has led to positive performance over market cycles
  • Self-starter with the capacity to function with minimal supervision while providing appropriate and meaningful feedback to portfolio managers
  • Consummate team player who will contribute across the firms strategies in a collegial and collaborative investment culture
  • Strong verbal and written presentation skills
  • Strong leadership skills evidenced by example and possessing the potential to assume additional responsibilities over time
  • Highly motivated to be successful and help build a firm of substance where clients are the priority
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for the investment industry
  • Has comprehensive experience analyzing securities in the strategy, sector and/or geography to which they are assigned
  • Still developing and refining research knowledge, skills and judgment
  • Strong programming in Python (preferred) or R for data manipulation and visualization.
  • Proficiency with visualization tools (Dash, Power BI, Plotly, Streamlit, Tableau).
  • SQL and data integration experience.
  • Familiarity with natural language processing and cloud development (Azure strongly preferred).
  • Intellectual curiosity and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and collaborate across teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates without direct finance experience are encouraged to apply if they are actively pursuing the CFA designation.
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related quantitative fields.
  • Experience: 3–7 years in quantitative research, data visualization, or financial analytics (preferably in asset management or hedge funds).

Responsibilities

  • Researches, analyzes, and recommends investment ideas for inclusion in Epochs strategies
  • While the primary focus will be to the strategy, sector and/or geography to which they are assigned, the analyst also contributes ideas, as appropriate, to the firms other strategies
  • Generates and researches investment candidates based on the analysts experience and expertise
  • The analyst also researches investment candidates as directed by the portfolio manager and/or generated by the firms quantitative and screening processes
  • Contributes to the firms broader research efforts by actively participating in investment research meetings, sharing knowledge, and collaborating with colleagues as necessary
  • Contributes to and participates in marketing and client service activities including presentations, meetings, and calls with clients, prospects, and consultants
